RESIDENTIAL OPENING BURNING INFORMATION KEEP THIS PAGE
Residential burning is allowed in the Umatilla Fire District from October 1st, 2009 to May 31st, 2010, subject to the following conditions and restrictions. CONDITIONS:
1.You must call the County Burn Line at 1-800-305-2876 to determine if it is a good burn day. You should only burn on days designated as good burn days by the County Burn Line message. THIS IS A CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS.
2.You may only burn residential yard waste and similar material.
3.You may burn during daylight hours only and all portions of your fire must be completely extinguished by nightfall. THIS INCLUDES BURNING BARRELS.
4.You must constantly attend your fire and have fire-fighting capabilities immediately on hand. Attendance means that you are physically at the fireside, and not “in the house” or otherwise somewhere else on your property. THIS INCLUDES BURNING BARRELS.
5.You must have this letter in your possession at all times while conducting an open burn and present it to any law enforcement or fire district representative upon request.
RESTRICTIONS: 1.You should not burn on any day not designated by the County as a good burn day.
2.You may not burn plastic, plastic garbage bags, rubber and tires, animal carcasses, construction or demolition debris or rubble nor any other debris or material which produces a dense smoke or noxious odors.
3.Commercial operations (any and all businesses) and landlords of rental units in the City of Umatilla or within three miles of the city limits may not burn anything without a DEQ Open Burn Letter, regardless of whether the material is otherwise permitted. This is a HOMEOWNER/OCCUPANT RESIDENTIAL INFORMATION LETTER ONLY. Commercial operations and landlords must call the Oregon DEQ at 541-633-2016 to obtain an Open Burn Letter.
4.You may not burn when the wind is greater than 10 miles an hour and must extinguish your fire immediately if you notice embers or flaming debris spreading due to local wind conditions at your location.
You are at all times responsible for your fire and the results thereof. You may be liable for fines, property damages to others and suppression costs if your fire gets out of control. The Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District accepts no responsibility or liability associated with the use of this Open Burn Information Letter.
